Kilsyth.....Great Family Fun at the base of the Dandenongs

Kilsyth, 34kms from Melbourne, is settled at the base of The Dandenongs.

In this little Outer Eastern Suburb I have managed to find some remarkable attractions. These were tucked away throughout the local area and sometimes it was sheer luck that I found them.

Great places to research the local area can be...

  • The Local Yellow Pages Directory
  • The Local Council
  • Wikipedia
  • Local Kindergartens, Schools
  • Great source of information is the Local Trader
  • My granddaughter and I found these great spots here Kilsyth and all of them are open to the public.

    Peanuts Print Little Things

The fascinating lesson that I have learnt is that in just about any suburb you will find little treasures tucked away in side streets or sandwiched between neighborhood houses.

    The Kilsyth Centenary Pool

The Kilsyth Centenary Pool is a great place to swim all seasons.

The Giant White Dome covers the Olympic swimming pool, the fun natural pool, training pool, babies pool and spa pool....Winter time is great under the Dome as the waters are warm, clean and great fun to swim in.

My little granddaughter had her 5th birthday under the dome and it really was so much fun, I even joined in dressed as silly SuperNan, accidentally falling into the pool and joining in the festivities....we all had such a great time, more great memories.

The best thing about swimming at the pool is the fact that it doesn't cost the earth to have some really great family fun.

The pool is a great place to swim all seasons.

In Summer the outside pools are open and as you can see children thoroughly enjoy the crystal clear waters.

    Ever so much fun

Here is a great link to swimming pools throughout Melbourne.....there could be one very close to you. Check out Knox Leisureworks at Boronia as an example.....

    The Mooroolbark Miniature Railway

miniature railway Steam Train collectors are passionate about their little beauties and the public are able to share their enthusiasm on every 4th Sunday of the month.

The rides are very reasonably priced and all the proceeds go to improving the facilities. Do be sure to wear closed in shoes, this is for insurance reasons.

Big and little kids enjoy these little locos as they steam along the rails, we managed to dodge the bushrangers, avoid the Indians and finished off the whole experience with a typical "Aussie Barbie" in the parklands that surround.

All in all a great day out for the Family in downtown suburban Kilsyth.

    Durham Road Parkland

What little parks do you have in your own Suburb? In Kilsyth they have a beautiful little parkland in Durham Road. It boasts a kiddies' playground, free coin in the slot BBQ's, a beautiful little lake and water causeway and great sealed walking/bike riding pathways throughout the natural treed area.

Check out your Local Yellow Pages for the street directory section...there you can pick out the parks etc in your own area.
