The airport, formally known as the Tullamarine airport, is the major airport for Melbourne, Australia servicing international, domestic and freight flights into and out of the capital city.

There are 4 airports near Melbourne and this is the largest.

The Airport opened in 1970 replacing the nearby Essendon Airport. It is the second busiest of the airports Australia has and it operates 24 hours a day. Planes fly to all the States and Territories within Australia and internationally to many other parts of the world.

Qantas, Virgin Blue, Jetstar Airways, and Tiger Airways Australia use the airport as their homebase.

The International Airport boasts that it handles more domestic freight than any other airport in Australia.

There are 4 terminals at the airport.

  • 1 x International terminal
  • 2 x Domestic Terminals
  • 1 x Budget Domestic Terminal

  • The Hilton situated right at the airport amd built on top of the multi level carpark
  • The Holiday Inn 400 metres from the terminals
  • Motel Formule 600 metres from the terminals
  • Mantra Tullamarine 2 kilometres from the melbourne Airport

Where Is The Main Melbourne Airport?

The airport is situated 27 kilometres or a short 35 minute drive south of the airport to the City's centre.

Getting To And From The Airport

The Skybus Service is a shuttle that goes to and from the Airport to many of the City's Hotels If you require transport to the outer areas of Melbourne then use this simple Metlink journey planner

There are also public buses that operate that will take you to all parts of the Melbourne metropolitan region.

If you are staying in Melbourne here is a convenient, personalized service direct to or from your Hotel.

Melbourne has excellent Freeways that lead directly to the Airport.

4 Carparks are available for travelers.

  • Short Term car parking, serviced by a ticket allocating system
  • Multi level long term parking
  • Long term secure parking
  • Business car parks

You can also be picked up or dropped off outside the terminals but there is a very short time limit and no standing rule so make sure that this is done quickly as there are hefty fines attached for non compliance.
