I would like to thank everyone for their entries and hope that you all will continue to submit a photo each year that the competition is running.

In the meantime, congratulations go to Clay for his whimsical Edisto Beach entry.

What an interesting place Edisto beach actually is. This is why I love running this competition, as I get to visit places I probably would never get to see in my lifetime.

And to think that the area was once famous for rice and indigo crops, cotton plantations flourished in the Civil War period as well as the lucrative slave trade!

In the early day, I see that access to the island could be gained only at low tide by driving or riding across the marsh on beds of oyster shells!

This truly is a romantic area steeped in history.

Loved learning about this amazing area, so thank you Clay.
