Can you tell me where to find the best beaches for sea glass and shells?

Hi Christine,

2 questions that are not that easy to answer.
I'll tackle the easier one first...

Kangaroos...

If you want to see these majestic animals in the wild or free roaming then I might suggest that you drop up to the Cardinia Resevoir where they sometimes are found grazing in the open grasslands.

To get up close and personal there are several places I can suggest...

1) The Moonlit Sanctuary


2) Healesville Sanctuary

3) Phillip Island

Remember that these animals are wild and need to be well respected. Watch their hind feet!

Now Seaglass and Shells...

This one is hard.

I've found seaglass at the base of Olivers Hill in Frankston. This is where I add to my collection particularly after high tides and high winds.

Shells, well each of our beaches will have a different selection of shells, mostly small specimens.

There is a beach called Shelly Beach on Phillip Island that has provided some decent specimens in the past. These days please note that...

'Some species of shells are protected. They are identified on signs at beach entrances. Please do not remove these shells. Fisheries and Wildlife Department personnel patrol the coast.'
